Steve Burnett
Bovina, NY

Steve Burnett runs a mountain-top farm in the Catskills with his wife. He has always painted stories of his life and surroundings. This new body of work reflects the moments when a farmer stands back and beholds their work under the sky and the light.

"I came to Upstate NY from NYC via Iowa. My grandparents and great grandparents, farmers in Iowa, were immigrants from Denmark, Ireland and Scotland. They told me stories about Iowa as a wild prairie when poverty, hunger and despair were ways of being that can’t be imagined today. Hard, hard stories painted in the lines they etched into the soil. Soil and place so impossibly rich that it somewhat forgave the rest. These pieces connect me to my people, the land, the light and the beauty I now practice too."
